Istanbul to Bodrum: A Weekend That Did Not Begin at the Airport

When we decided to spend the weekend in Bodrum, finding a flight was not the main challenge. The real challenge was getting there without sacrificing most of Friday to the journey.

There were four of us, and we all had work commitments until late afternoon. Scheduled flight times meant either cancelling meetings or arriving in Bodrum close to midnight. Instead, we chose to charter a private jet.

Leaving the office, not losing the evening

Our departure was arranged for 7:00 p.m. After leaving the office, we drove directly to the general aviation terminal in Istanbul. Arriving approximately 30 minutes before departure gave us enough time to complete the necessary formalities.

Our luggage was taken from the vehicle, identification checks were completed, and we were shown into a quiet lounge. There were no crowded check-in areas, long security lines or last-minute gate changes. While we had coffee, the crew briefed us on the weather and expected flight time.

A short hop with room to talk

A light jet with seating for six passengers had been arranged for the route. The cabin was naturally smaller than that of a commercial airliner, but it was comfortable for our group of four. The facing seats allowed us to talk throughout the journey.

Shortly after take-off, the lights of Istanbul disappeared behind us. Sandwiches, fruit and drinks selected before the flight were waiting in the cabin. We spent most of the flight, which lasted around one hour, discussing our plans for the weekend.

Arriving already unwound

When we landed at Milas-Bodrum Airport, our driver was already waiting. The luggage was transferred within minutes, and roughly 15 minutes after leaving the aircraft, we were on our way to the hotel.

What impressed us most was not a particular luxury feature inside the aircraft. It was the feeling that the schedule belonged to us. We had completed our work, avoided spending hours at the airport and still arrived in time for dinner.

When we woke up on Saturday morning, the holiday was not just beginning. We had already settled into the rhythm of Bodrum the night before.

Making the most of Sunday

Our return flight was arranged for 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, allowing us to enjoy almost the entire day. We had a late lunch, spent a little more time by the sea and left for the airport at the agreed time without worrying about missing a scheduled service.

The real value of a short break

The journey showed us that private aviation is not simply about travelling in a more exclusive environment. On a short break, its greatest value may be the time it gives back.
